Summary

Using empirical data this paper critically considered to what extent extensive reading (ER) is valuable to a university program focused on TOEFL success. Results suggest there is no clear link between test scores and the prevalence of ER. Students will often adopt their own strategies and due to the intensive nature of such standardised tests do not always consider ER as a suitable or appropriate way to achieve success.
