Kenji Sugibayashi, Ph.D., is an Honorary Distinguished Professor and the former President of Josai International University, Japan. He also serves as a Distinguished Appointed Professor at Josai University. He received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Toyama in 1974 and 1976, respectively. He started to work at Josai University in 1976. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Gifu Pharmaceutical University in 1981. He was also a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Michigan and the University of Utah from 1982-83, working under Dr. William I. Higuchi.
His major is pharmaceutical and cosmetic sciences. He has written over 360 original articles, 155 reviews, 70 patents, and edited several books. His Google Scholar Citations and h-index are 9872 and 53, respectively. He was the president of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Japan (APSTJ) from 2009-10, a Vice-President at the Japanese Cosmetic Science Society for a long time and a board member of directors at the Japanese Society for Alternative to Animal Experiments (JSAAE). He has received many scientific awards; like the AFPS (Asia Federation of Pharmaceutical Sciences) Distinguished Scientist Award in 2017, the JSAAE (the Japanese Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments) Achievement Award in 2015, the Shukri Distinguished Keynote Lecture Award at the Asia Pacific Pharmacy Education Workshop in 2014, the APSTJ Award 2013, APSTJ Young Researcher Award in 1996, the Most Published Author Award 2016-2020 in CPB from the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in 2021, the JST (J. Toxicol. Sci.) Tanabe Award in 2019, APSTJ Best Paper Award in 2013, 2011, 2009, and 1993, JOC (Japan Oleo Chemistry) Best Editor Award in 2012, AATEX Best Paper Award in 2002, among many others. He got an Honorary Doctorate from Management and Science University, Malaysia in 2017.
