Palladium Charcoal-Catalyzed Deprotection of O-Allylphenols

A facile and mild reaction for deprotection of various O-allylphenols using 10% Pd/C under basic conditions is presented. Thus, O-allylphenols bearing an electron-withdrawing or weak electron-donating group on the benzene ring, were readily deprotected to give the corresponding phenols in high yields. On the other hand, the reaction of O-allylphenols having an electron-donating group were resulted in the formation of the corresponding phenols in low to good yields.
