ドイツ皇帝ヴィルヘルム二世が喧伝して世界に広まった「黄禍」論が日独関係にどのような影響を与えたかを吟味した。三国干渉時の黄色人種脅威思想の流布、皇帝のいわゆる「黄禍の図」、日露戦争中のドイツにおける「黄禍」論の喧伝などを分析しつつ、日露戦争後に仮想敵国、次いで第一次世界大戦時の敵国となったドイツに対する日本人の見方に、「黄禍」論がどのような影響を与えたか、などを明らかにした。ヴィルヘルム二世による「黄禍」論の喧伝は、日独関係の悪化の決定的な要因とは言えなかったものの、一要因となったことは確かである。
