Hunting as a symbol of cultural tradition　the cultural meaning of subsistence activities in Gwich’in Athabascan society of northern Alaska.　

アラスカ先住民グィッチン社会では、狩猟漁撈採集活動で獲得した食料を高く評価しつつ活発に分配する。このことがアイデンティティの源になっている。また、これらの活動に有用であるかによって外来文化に対する評価を下している。さらに、狩猟漁撈の技術は非先住民との関係を逆転させる機能を持つ。以上のことから当該社会では、これらの活動が先住民として社会的生存を図っていく上で重要な役割を果たしているといえる。
