Summary

Taking the typology of tourist motivators devised by Swarbrooke and Horner (1999) as its point of departure, this essay examines how relevant the model is for Japanese educational sojourners. The paper highlights that the model is effective in recognising the increased diversity in the type and nature of activities undertaken by Japanese students abroad.
