Summary

We examined the effect a TRPA1 activator allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) of gastric mucosal blood flow (GMBF) in the ex-vivo stomach of normal and sensory deafferented rats. These results suggested that AITC increases GMBF through activation of TRPA1, but not TRPV1. It is assumed that the increased GMBF in response to AITC is mediated by TRPA1 located on both TRPV1-expressing and TRPV1-non-expressing sensory nerves.
