Measuring the Distance Between Contemporary Japanese Literature and the Anthropocene Through the Works of Sayaka Murata: Focusing on “Eating the City,” “Survival,” and “Harmless Creature.”
![]() |
This paper focuses on two works by Murata Sayaka, one of the few authors in Japan who writes climate change fiction: “Survival” (2019) and “Harmless Creature” (2024). By comparing these works with her earlier “Eating the City” (2009), this study aims to elucidate Murata’s environmental perspective as represented in her works.
