The paper analyzes the the visual, especially the photographic heritage of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution of and War for Independence. The paper summarizes the activities of the professional foreign and Hungarian photographers, and the amateur Hungarian photographers' activities, adn the handling of these photographs by the authorities. The paper also classifies the photographs into iconographic categories, and focuses on the exhibitions and controversies of the 2016 Commemorational Year.
