Summary

(Fe,Co,Ni,Cr,Mo,Nb)–B amorphous HE alloys with 8–14 at% B were successfully prepared.
Nb addition is effective in improving GFA and forming denser packed atomic structure.
The ultrahigh hardness is due to novel fcc + bcc + amorphous nanoscale mixed-phase.
