Summary

Students reported their views and opinions regarding English study and the importance that they felt such study would have on their future careers. Participants were given a 32 item survey, which dealt with general feelings about English, future need for English, and perceived importance of various English skills in their chosen career. The results indicated that the participants' perceptions of the need for English in pharmaceutical work did not match the existing literature. Students reported that reading and listening were more important than speaking and writing. Professional development (presenting and publishing) did not seem to factor into their feelings. Participants felt that, while they did not studey English on a daily basis, their English ability was acceptable, and had an overall favorable view of English study. One overall conclusion of the article was that students do not see the importance of English in terms of professional development.
