授業の概要
It is a beginner’s class where students will learn about French language, French culture, and the French-speaking world. Some prior knowledge of the language is desirable although not mandatory. As they develop intrinsic motivation, students are expected to meet the set learning outcomes. Students are also encouraged to develop resilience, take ownership of their learning and work independently when necessary.

The general aims of French ONE course are to develop in students a basic to intermediary level of communicative competence in writing and in speaking. At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1) Express themselves orally and in writing on the topic of personal world. They should be able to express proper greetings, say their name, age, where they live, their date of birth, talk about their family, discuss their daily routines, school subjects and university life, what they like and dislike and why, the profession that they would like to have in the future with relevant reasons.
2) Have some knowledge of certain major tourist attractions and landmarks in France and regions of France (metropolitan and overseas), including, but not limited to, capital cities, the population, food specialities. Students will also know how to ask and tell directions.
3) Have some understanding of regular verbs and some irregular verbs in the present and past tenses and be able to use these verbs in simple sentences to convey original meaning.
4) Develop an appreciation of the contribution of French people in the fields of literature, human rights, art, medicine, science, and other disciplines.

PPTs, handouts, documents, authentic activity sheets on different learning platforms will be prepared by the teacher. Those need to be downloaded, saved and and organised in proper folders by the students. As a guideline that would allow opportunities for adjustments depending on the demands of the dynamic nature students` learning, their needs and their level of engagement with the curriculum, here is how the textbook Spirale will be divided:

French I Spirale Pages 1 to 20
French II Spirale Pages 20 to 39
French III Spirale Pages 39 to 52
French IV Spirale Pages 52 to 80
French Language and Culture A Spirale Pages 80 to 100
French Language and Culture B Spirale Pages 100 to 115

Reference to the grammar section at the back of the book will often be made in each level of French taught. Reference to previous topics will often be made as the course progresses.

Pre-requisites: While students may have mixed ability levels, some prior knowledge of the language would be desirable. As they identify the reasons for studying the language and develop intrinsic motivation, students are expected to meet the set learning outcomes. Students needing extra support in terms of consolidation exercises or extension work are encouraged to talk to the teacher. This course focuses on the fundamental elements of the French language. Emphasis is placed on the progressive development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in authentic communication context. Upon completion, students should be able to comprehend and respond with increasing proficiency to spoken and written French, demonstrate nuanced cultural awareness and develop an appreciation of the relevance of critical thinking in French (and more broadly Western) humanist traditions of learning. They will learn to become confident language learners who can be risk-takers and will be able to compare their own cultures and cultural spheres of reference (Japanese or others) with those of France and the Francophone world.  A minimum of 70% attendance rate must be achieved throughout the course. Two unjustified latenes will also count as absence. Students must maintain sound work ethics throughout the whole duration of the course.

As a guideline, for Quarter 1, pages 1 to 21 from Unit 1 will be covered:
