Quarter 3 French III: 13 face-to-face lessons of 105 minutes spread over 7 weeks.

Goal and theme of the class

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1) Reinforce the knowledge of Quarter 1 and 2.
2) Express themselves orally and in writing on the topics beyond their personal world and understand temporal nuances in terms of facts, forecasts, and possibilities.
3) Develop an appreciation of the history of France, French people`s lifestyle, habits, ways of being and make comparisons with their own cultures.

Overview of the class

Students should be able to comprehend and respond with increasing proficiency to spoken and written French, demonstrate nuanced cultural awareness and develop an appreciation of the relevance of critical thinking in French. As a guideline for the Quarter 3 Fall 1 2023, elements of Spirale that were completed in the previous two quarters must be reviewed. Students will continue to explore new vocabulary, verbs and sentence constructions that go beyond the theme of Personal World.

Lesson schedule

French III is a continuation of French I and II that the students completed in Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. As a general guideline, in French III, students will review the pages 38 and 39 of Spirale and continue to develop an understanding of the vocabulary and written and spoken expressions going beyond the theme Personal World.

Content: Identification of students` existing proficiency level and prior knowledge in all learning strands (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
Classwork: Read Unit 2 lesson 5 (pages 36-39).

Use of simple sentences in present and past tenses
Review the past tense and the auxiliaries AVOIR and ETRE

Preview: Read the syllabus and Pages 39 to 52 of Spirale.
Reintroduction to the resources and textbook Spirale.
Elements of Spirale that were completed the previous year must be revised (Unit 2 lesson 5 (pages 36-39). Pages 39 to 52 Unit 2 Lesson 6 to Unit 3 Lesson 9) will be completed in French III.

Evaluation exam and grading

Students not meeting the minimum of 70% attendance grade will fail the course.
Students need to score 60% or more to pass the course.

This course is based on a system of continuous assessment. Students will have to submit a Final Report at the end of the course. There is no exam for this course.

Should a student show commitment and effort and yet get an F at the end of the course, there may be a chance to pass the course in the form of a written work as make-up report at a time decided by the teacher.

Feedback on student performance is given on a weekly basis right after the presentations and discussions, or on the next class meeting after the assignment due date. You can also talk to your teachers individually if you want more detailed feedback or are concerned about your work or class performance.
