授業の到達目標及びテーマ
Advanced Practical Discussion Skills: International Perspectives on Dystopian Literature will help students identify important concepts and themes in utopian/dystopian literature and how they are reflected in both Japan and the world at large. Students will learn to think, speak, and write critically about the topics presented in class and in the assigned readings.
授業の概要
Active class participation will be important. Students will be responsible for reading the assigned material (including a short novel) and completing weekly reading responses based on those readings. In each class, students will be given a chance to discuss their ideas in small groups, followed by a short lecture by the instructor. Students will demonstrate their understanding of class lectures/readings through regular quizzes and a mid-term exam. While reading and discussion will be the main skills of focus, critical writing will also be highlighted. A final report assignment will allow students to show their understanding of dystopian literature and the world they live in.
