授業の到達目標及びテーマ
The main objective of this course is to develop your speaking and critical thinking skills. You will practice speaking in mainly two ways: 1) discussing in pairs or in small groups; and 2) giving short presentations. In both areas you will practice maintaining eye contact, speaking fluently, and using gestures to help listeners understand your ideas. The discussion topics are important issues related to society. You will need to think carefully about an issue and express your opinion during discussion.

Apart from speaking, you will also develop your reading skills when preparing for the discussions and presentations. Through reading, you will learn important vocabulary. As the course progresses and you analyze a range of topics, your critical thinking skills will improve. Listening and writing will also be developed in activities related to presentations.

Note that OFIV is a continuation of OFIII, so both courses use the same textbook. By the end of OFIV, you will have developed your discussion and presentation skills, leading to improved self-confidence when speaking in public.
授業の概要
You will complete one unit every two lessons. In the first lesson of each unit, you will read and listen to a text about a social issue. You will practice identifying the issue, people’s opinions about the issue, and the reasons for their opinions.

In the second lesson of each unit, you will discuss the social issue in detail and express your own opinion on the issue. To complete the unit, you will give a short presentation. At the end of the course, you will do research to give one final, more detailed presentation related to a social issue. This is in addition to the Final Report.

In order to improve your presentation skills, to deepen your understanding of topics, or to develop your academic approach to these topics, your teacher may introduce other materials.
