授業の到達目標及びテーマ
This course aims to provide the students with an understanding of children's literature from both the UK and the US. It will give them a chronological progression of literature from books for junior high school students, to young adult readers. This course will also analyse the different features of children's literature as well as how culture and time period influence the writing of children's books.
授業の概要
This course is a continuation of the course "English and North American Children's Literature a" and so will start with a review of literature for younger children. It will then look at the main features of older children's literature and some of the differences between them and those for younger readers. The course will also examine the different genres of children's literature, as well as comics and some classic children's stories. A selection of popular authors from both Britain and the US will also be studied, looking at examples of their books and analysing different features used. Finally, students will work on a presentation to demonstrate what they have covered over the course of these lessons.
