授業の到達目標及びテーマ
Topics in Cross-Cultural Communication A aims at developing cultural awareness and provide students the knowledge and tools to become competent communicators in multicultural settings. In particular, this course will help students think about the relationship between language and culture, including some of the important aspects of human psychology that influence communication across cultures. The assigned readings, discussion and writing activities will help students think critically about intercultural communication, so that they may be able to develop their own ideas on how they can more effectively communicate with people of various backgrounds.
授業の概要
This course is appropriate for students who are English level B1 in the Common European Framework of References (CEFR), and wish to prepare for university-level classes conducted entirely in English. Special focus will be given to improving students’ oral communication and reading skills for academic purposes. Throughout the course, the students will be asked to perform various intermediate-level oral communication tasks, such as group discussions and giving a presentation. Students are responsible for completing all assigned reading and writing tasks before class meetings, so that more time can be devoted to discussing the content of the assigned materials.
