授業の到達目標及びテーマ
Students will be able to understand various theories and approaches in the field of second language acquisition research and be able to read research papers on second language acquisition research. Students will also be able to acquire basic knowledge and methodologies for applying the results of second language acquisition research to language teaching. Students will also learn about research methods, and at the end of the semester, they will be able to summarize previous research on one topic of second language acquisition research and prepare a review paper.
授業の概要
This class will provide a broad overview of second language acquisition research. First, some aspects of first language acquisition will be reviewed prior to second language acquisition. Then, the characteristics of second language learners and the history of second language acquisition research will be reviewed. The theories and models of second language acquisition will then be reviewed, followed by an overview of research on instruction and age-related research in second language acquisition, and methods for applying the results of empirical second language acquisition research to language education will be discussed. In the latter half of the semester, research papers will be selected and read according to the students' interests.
In each class, an overview presentation and discussion of the assigned contents will be given, so active participation, including the presentation of questions, is required. As a final assignment, students will write a review paper on a topic related to second language acquisition research.
The content and progression of the class may be changed according to the students' level and interests.
