    This class provides students with the overall information about what the accommodation business is. The students will be able to learn the concept of the service management in a systematic manner. The followings are the main objectives of this class:
1. The students will understand the role of accommodation business in the tourism industry.
2. The students will understand how hotels have historically developed in Japan and other countries.
3. The students will understand various types of accommodation business with different management styles.

    In this class, the students learn a variety of types of the accommodation business. The class provides the students with a big picture of how the accommodation business is perceived in the hospitality industry as well as with the features of service businesses, history of hotels (Japan and western countries) , management styles of the accommodation  business, and the overview of Service Management. In addition, the students will see some unique hotels trying to adjust themselves to the current social conditions with the Covid-19 as well as the aging society particularly in Japan to consider what we need for the future's accommodation industry. Those taking this class are expected to discuss some issues regarding the topic given in each class and to make individual/group presentations.
