Summary

We synthesized various 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+) derivatives and examined their energy metabolism levels in cultured neurons. From this study, we clarified that the parkinsonism-related substances have not only mitochondrial inhibitory activity but also an effect to change energy metabolism.
