In this paper, the writers introduce a method for increasing the number of instances for verbal output by students. This method incorporates a reward-based design to motivate students to take a more active role in class showed to be both effective and efficient. The paper begins by explaining the main purpose behind its implementation: motivating students to participate in class. Discussing the method, the writers begin by pointing out the need to remove as many negative factors as possible and offer a supportive and positive environment, while making participation as easy as possible. A description of the preparation and actual process shows how the system works. The writers go on to describe a technique designed to increase external motivation, adding that teachers should provide a lot of positive feedback and make every effort to facilitate student output. The results find that classes which incorporated the method had positive results. The conclusion reiterates the effectiveness of the Maru/Batsu System, suggesting that further studies could be made comparing this method with other types of instruction.
